Stove Timer Hunt

Materials:

  • Kitchen timer
  • objects to hide
Directions:

Time is running out and the banana is still missing! One or more kids can play this rousing version of "Beat-the-Clock." Hide an object in the kitchen, then set the timer for a specified period of time (say, five minutes).

For young children, choose large objects and hide them in plain view. If you have older children, you can make the game more sophisticated by using smaller objects, making the hiding places more difficult, or setting the timer for a shorter period.

This game is great for one child, but it can be played by two or more as well. Kids can play as teams, or they can compete against one another. If they play against one another, try calling them into the kitchen one by one, and hide the object in the same place for each player. Or, if you need to be free to cook, have one child do the hiding and the other child (or children) be the seekers. Now, where is that spatula? It was here just a second ago!
