Most Important Numbers

Directions:

Of course, every child knows his or her birthday. But can your kids find the date by looking at the numbers on signs, clocks, magazines, and so on?

Have your children translate their birthdays into numerical form, including the month, day, and year (for example, 6-10-87 and 3-31-90). Then see if they can find those numbers, in sequence, as you walk or ride (check house, road, and exit numbers), or while you sit (look at magazines and newspapers, or a calendar).

Once your kids find their birthdays, see whether they can find yours and other family members'. Then have them look for other familiar dates, with or without years, such as 7-4 (Independence Day), 2-14 (Valentine's Day), and so on. Your child can also seek other important, nondate numbers, such as addresses, ages, and so on.

Can anybody find your telephone number—all in one source?
