Folding Room Screen

Materials:

  • Cardboard
  • duct tape (if cardboard is separate sheets)
  • art supplies
  • magazines and other picture sources
  • sheets of paper
Directions:

This folding screen is something your kids will have fun making and using for a long time.

To make the basic screen, use three or four large pieces of heavy cardboard; the sides from an appliance box work very well. If the box is intact, cut open one corner so that the sides are still connected and fold it accordion-style so that it stands up. If your children are starting with separate pieces of cardboard, make connecting hinges with strips of duct tape.

Now you can have your children decorate their folding screen using paints, markers, and pictures clipped from magazines (depending on the type of decorations they chose to apply, your children may want to first cover the cardboard with sheets of paper more suitable for coloring).

When the screen is done, your children can use it to enclose a reading nook or perhaps to designate where the playroom ends and the shores of a getaway tropical island begin.
