Materials:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • craft paper
  • art supplies
  • magazines and other photo sources
Directions:

Does your playroom or child's bedroom look as though a tornado hit it? Here's how to find some emergency relief and prevent future disasters.

Gather cardboard boxes of various shapes and sizes. Have your child cover them with craft paper (lids should be covered separately). Decorations can include photographs from magazines and junk mail catalogues (perhaps you can even find and use photos of the toys themselves) or freehand crayon or paint designs.

Have your child decide which box will contain which type of toy (perhaps the largest box will contain giant stuffed animals, medium-sized boxes will hold building blocks or large dinosaurs, and the smallest boxes will hold Legos, marbles, etc.). Have your child label each box with its contents and his or her name.

Then make a game of having your child put the toys into their new places: For example, challenge your child to fill a box in five minutes or do the two-foot toy toss, which entails tossing soft toys into their bins from two feet away. Quick, put the lids on before the toys can escape!
