Heads-Up Drawing Game

Directions:

A popular song once pointed out that "one man's ceiling is another man's floor." In this drawing game, one person's smile may well be another's eyebrows—with hilarious results!

Two people work together to create this top-to-bottom drawing of a person's face. To start, have the two artists sit facing each other with a sheet of paper between them on an armrest or table. Draw a large oval on the page so that the long dimension runs from one artist to the other, then have children take turns adding facial features.

Because each child's view is upside-down in relation to the other's, the features added will take on a different meaning for each child. If one draws a mouth, for example, it may become frown lines from the other child's perspective. In the same way, eyebrows that one child draws could look like bags under the eyes of the other's face. By the time they have completed their drawing, your children will have created two completely different faces. Who knows which is right-side up?
