Ladle Fishing

Materials:

  • Large plastic container
  • ladle
  • small toys
Directions:

Your kids don't need a license or a pond to play this fun fishing game, which is especially suited to young children.

Have your child gather some of his or her small toys. Drop the toys into a large plastic container. You can use a storage bowl, a dish pan, or any other suitable container.

Next, give your child a ladle to use as a "fishing pole." The idea is to catch the object that you ask for: "the small yellow block" or "the little green alligator."

If your child "reels" in the wrong toy, he or she has to toss it back. As you get breaks during your dinner preparations, comment on the game with phrases like "Oh, looks like that blue bear got away from you there," or "The Legos don't seem to be biting today."

When supper's on the table, your little one can regale the family with his or her own fish stories. "And you should have seen the one that got away . . . "
