News Radio

Materials:

  • Tape recorder
Directions:

You're tuned to radio station WBZR, where the weather is always bizarre and the news is always unbelievable. Have your child use a tape recorder to create nutty news, silly sportscasts, and wacky weather reports. To get your child's imagination rolling, read these samples:

"Smallville was rocked today by the news that Miller's Pond is being overrun by giant blue catfish. The local game warden has come up with a plan to introduce even bigger orange dogfish to control the situation. No word yet on availability of giant dogcatcher fish in any color."

"At the World Standing-on-One-Foot Championships today there was an upset when Michael Smith lost his balance after only ten minutes. Jennifer Long was disqualified early on in the competition due to illegal nose-twitching."

Encourage your child to embellish his or her radio personalities with silly voices and funny names. "Reporting for WBZR, this is Billy Banana. Now back to Sarah Spaghetti in the newsroom."
