Dots Away

Directions:

All you need to play this game is a sheet of paper and a pencil. You can make it as simple or as challenging as you like, and once your kids get started, they can play with each other for miles of smiles.

Make a grid of dots on a piece of paper, either plain or graph. The more dots you place on the grid, the more challenging the game becomes. A good starting size to teach your kids the game is a grid of six dots by six.

The game is played by connecting two adjacent dots with a line. Each player in turn adds a new line to the grid, trying to avoid creating a three-sided box that the other player can "capture" in his or her next move. Every time a player adds a fourth side and closes a box, he or she marks it with his or her initial. Whoever has the most boxes in the end wins.

This could be one time when you actually do want to get yourself into a box!
