Get the Picture?
Directions:
Sometimes a limited view of the big picture can yield hilarious results, as in this guessing game you can play with your child. (For a real-world version of this game, see Tunnel Vision).
To play, you cover a picture in a magazine or a book with a sheet of paper or cardboard that blocks out all but a few small sections, then have your child try to guess the big picture.
To create the cover sheet, make a series of uneven folds in a piece of paper, then cut off half-inch pieces along the edges of the folds. When you unfold the paper, it will have holes in it. The fewer holes you make, the more of the picture will be covered. As an alternative, you can make a set of cardboard cover sheets with viewing holes before you leave home. You should make at least three sizes: 3 x 5 inches, 4 x 6 inches, and 8 x 10 inches.
When you're ready to play, simply grab a magazine or book, cover a picture in it, and pass it to your child so that he or she can try to describe the big picture.
