Puzzle Patterns

Directions:

Does your child like making and finding patterns? If so, he or she will enjoy this pattern puzzle. It's easy to do, and the results are never the same twice.

Begin the puzzle by drawing a series of simple geometrical shapes on a sheet of paper to create a repetitive pattern. The more shapes you use, the more complicated the pattern can become. It can be as simple as

l o l o l o l o l o

or something more elaborate, like

o o + l o o + l

Now see if your child can figure out the pattern and continue it. For a more challenging puzzle, you and your child can create a two-dimensional pattern, such as

o o
o  o
o  o
o o

After a while, you and your child will certainly notice another pattern developing: that time flies when you're having fun!
