Buzz Ball
Materials:
- Kitchen timer
- ball
Keeping several kids occupied while you're making dinner calls for some real juggling. Here's a way to get your kids juggling instead.
Two or more players gather in the kitchen and select an object to pass. An orange, potato, or apple will do (so will a small foam ball). Then establish some simple playing rules. For example, set a timer, then have your kids begin tossing the object to one another. The player holding the object when the buzzer goes off has to sit down. Reset the timer until only one person is left, then the game begins again.
Older kids can keep score. For example, the player holding the object when the buzzer goes off might get a point; after several rounds, the player with the fewest points wins. Or kids can play kitchen: A player gets a k the first time he or she is caught holding the object, an i the second time, and so on. When a player spells kitchen, he or she bows out.
This version of hot potato will keep kids entertained for a long timeand you don't even have to heat the spud.
