Caption and Photo Matchup
Materials:
- Newspapers or magazines
- scissors
- Pencil and paper (optional)
Sure, we may read the newspaper every day, but how often do we pay close attention to the pictures?
Cut out some photographs from a recent newspaper or magazine, along with the captions. Select photos from across the publication, capturing everything from the news and local sections to sports and food. Snip off and save the captions, and you're ready for some great photo fun.
Spread out the photos, then read your child the captions, pausing to see if he or she can figure out which caption goes with which picture. You'll probably learn some surprising things about the world around you!
For an interesting variation, try reading the caption and having your child draw an appropriate picture. Then pull out the actual photo so your child can compare it with his or her drawing. Which one is a better fit?
Finally, cut up and recombine both the captions and the pictures and randomly reassemble them. Read 'em and weep with laughter!
