In-Print Hunt

Materials:

  • Books, magazines, and other print sources
Directions:

Here's a "find it" game that will keep your prereaders poring through books, magazines, and newspapers in search of items that you specify for them to locate. Use these categories for starters:

Things That Move. Have them look for pictures of trains, boats, cars, trucks, airplanes, bicycles, skates, and so on.

Animals. Keep the animal picture hunt simple for younger kids by having them find big animals and small animals.

Colors. First have your children point to, say, all the green things, followed by all the red things, etc.

Different Parts of the House. How many pictures of kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and the like can your kids find?

Shapes. See how many round things your children can find, then square things, and so on.

Finally, how about locating happy faces, which we hope you'll see when your kids do this activity!
