Quote-of-the-Day Holder
Materials:
- Large envelope
- scissors
- art and writing supplies
- newspapers
- books and other print sources
Here's an easy art project that can lead to an ongoing fun and educational family activity: a framed holder for posting tidbits and trivia. Your child can use it to display a "quote of the day," "word of the day," or notes from "this day in history."
The frame itself is simple to make. Cut a rectangle out of the front side of a large envelope, leaving a one-inch border all the way around, and have your child decorate it, including a title for the selected category. Next, punch a hole through the front end and the flap so nothing will fall out when it's hung up. Each new quote, word, or other interesting tidbit can be written on a clean piece of paper and put in the envelope so it shows through the frame.
Your child can look for quotes in the newspaper or in favorite books, encyclopedias, and dictionaries; for variety he or she can make up original quotes, silly words, or historical nonevents.
Say, this is fun; you can quote us on that.
