No Countries
Directions:
What if the whole world were one big nation, and individual countries no longer existed? Ask your kids how we would:
Govern all the people in the world. Would we have government by one big world tribunal, or would we have a host of smaller tribunals? How would we make sure that everyone had fair representation?
Speak. Would everybody speak the same language? How would we decide which language was the official worldwide tongue? Would people be allowed to speak whichever language they wanted to? How could we steer them toward the official language?
Get along. How could people who have different customs, foods, clothing, religions, and even holidays learn to live in the same country with one another? Would we find it easier or more difficult to get along with each other?
Once your kids have thought about what it might be like to live in a world without individual countries, pose this question: Would you like to live in a world composed of just one country?
