Sign Jumbles

Directions:

The Word Jumbles in the newspaper are one of our favorite ways to pass the time. But you don't need a newspaper to play word games—any sign will do.

To play, just turn your attention to the billboards, store displays, and traffic signs all around you. This is a great way to pass the time while waiting on a bus, or while stopped in traffic.

The object of the game is to see how many words can be made out of the letters on the sign. That stop sign on the corner, for example, contains the word spot. The marquee outside of the cafe holds the word face.

When you and your child play together, keep using the same sign until it stumps one of you. The last player to get a word from the sign is the winner.

If you're playing in the car, and you're stopped at a traffic light, keep going until the light turns green—but you'll have to think fast! Just how many words can you get out of that "Pedestrian Crossing" sign, anyway?
