Before-You-Go Card-Game Board

Directions:

Simple games like concentration are a great way for your kids to pass the time but are difficult to play in a car, train, or plane. Here's a simple portable gameboard to make before you go.

To make the board, first cut a ten-inch-square piece of cardboard. Then cut four 10 x 3¾ inch strips of construction paper and cover one side with clear adhesive covering. Fold the strips lengthwise with the adhesive covering on the outside, so that one side measures 2½ inches and the other 1¼ inches. Next, glue the 2½-inch side to the cardboard. Staple through both sides of the strips and the cardboard at 2-inch intervals to form five pockets on each strip.

To make playing cards, have your children draw pairs of objects on the top half of thirty or so 1½ x 2¼ inch pieces of thin cardboard. Or have them find pairs of pictures in magazines and glue them onto the upper portions of the cards. You can cover the cards with clear adhesive covering if you wish. When the preparation is done, pack everything up in a paper or plastic bag, and you're ready to roll.
