Before-You-Go Traveling Mail Kit

Directions:

Wouldn't you like to encourage your child to write home to friends and relatives during your trip? A personal letter-writing kit will help him or her to be ready and eager to keep those cards and letters going.

Fill a large clasp or string envelope with the following items:

  • an address book, either store-bought or, better yet, one made by your child by folding sheets of construction paper in half and stapling them together on the fold
  • a "special" pen or marker; that is, one that goes back in the envelope when it's not being used
  • writing paper, envelopes, and postcards
  • stamps for both letters and postcards
As you wend your way to your destination, be on the lookout for mailboxes. Unusual postmarks will add interest for friends and family as they receive letters from the road.

While you're at it, we'd really enjoy getting a letter from North Pole, Alaska (yes, there is such a place)!
