First Impressions: Flora and Fauna
Directions:
Travel is an ideal way for your junior naturalists to get a real appreciation for the diversity of plant and animal life. (Stress whatever "no touch" rules you have at home.) Here are some starter questions for your kids to answer in the Family Book of Observations:
- Do you recognize any of the trees? Are the trees generally larger or smaller than those at home? Do most of the trees have broad leaves or needles?
- Are hedges common to the area? Do they look like the ones at home?
- Are there more or fewer flowering plants than at home? Do you recognize any of the wildflowers?
- What birds do you see? Do you recognize any of them from home?
- Are there any unusual insects?
- What small mammals do you see?
- Are there deer or other large mammals?
