First Impressions: Street and Sidewalks

Directions:

Streets, sidewalks, trees, and fences are some of the things that give each neighborhood its unique feel. As you and your family sightsee and shop, think about these kinds of questions:

  • What are the streets and sidewalks made of—brick, asphalt, concrete, or cobblestone?
  • Are the streets narrower or wider than those back home?
  • Are there parking meters? Does parking time cost the same as back home?
  • Where are the street signs—on the corner of a building, on a pole, or built into the curbs?
  • What are the fences made of—wood or metal? Are they fancy or plain?
  • Are there trees and flower boxes or flower pots along the sidewalks?
One thing is certain: After recording your answers in the Family Book of Observations, your kids will never take the sidewalks for granite again!
