Navigator's Hat
Directions:
Even if your children aren't old enough to drive, they can still help get you to your destination. Make (or select) a special hat before you leave home. Then have your kids take turns wearing the hat and performing the following navigator duties:
Sign spotter. If you're looking for a particular town or exit, or the next rest area, have the navigator watch for signs.
Map travel recorder. The navigator traces your route on a map with a highlighter pen, adding markers in the appropriate places to indicate all of your stops.
Travel updater. Have your navigator periodically report which direction you're heading in, how far you've gone, and how many miles you have to travel until the next stop.
And, of course, when you come to a crossroads and don't have a clue as to where you are, the navigator can help you guess which way to go next!
