Marshmallow on the Moon
Materials:
- Spoons
- large marshmallows
- plastic lids or paper plates
- markers
What has no feathers and flies? Why, a marshmallow, launched from a spoon!
To find out for yourself, provide each of your kids with a plastic or metal spoon. The handle must be flat, so that a marshmallow can rest on it while your child slaps the round part, catapulting the marshmallow into the air.
Place the spoons behind a "launching line" (a string, a chopstick, etc.) on the floor or table. Then arrange a series of targets, such as container tops or paper plates. Your kids can write numbers or words on pieces of paper and affix them to the targets, or write directly on the targets with markers.
Place the targets a couple of feet away from the spoon launchers, and let the games begin!
Players take turns slapping the spoons and trying to plunk their marshmallows onto the desired targets. Perhaps when there's a lull in the cooking, you can try it, too. Nice shot, but we wonder how your marinara sauce will taste with that marshmallow floating in it!
