They know what it looks like. They know what it tastes like. They can even tell it by the aroma. But do your kids really know what goes into their favorite dish?
Test their food knowledge in a fun way by writing down the ingredients from two recipes, with each ingredient on a separate strip of paper. Then tell your kids what the finished dishes are supposed to be. The object is for your kids to separate the ingredients into two piles, one for each recipe. (An alternate version for pre- or early readers is to get out the actual ingredients and see if they can group them by recipes).
You can increase the challenge in several ways. Try using more than two recipes. Or, don't tell your kids the names of the dishes and see if they can figure out the intended results. Finally, try using similar recipescupcakes and banana bread, for example.
There's no penalty for guessing wrongunless you want to let your kids eat the recipes they put together.
