What Am I? Hand Animals
Directions:
Here's a game for creating an entire menageriewith your hands and fingers.
Each child and adult takes turns making animal shapes with his or her hands.
For example, hold your hand sideways, with your thumb pointing straight up. Prestoinstant shark! By moving your pinky up and down, you open the shark's mouth.
A few simple changes turns your shark into an alligator. Curl your thumb so your hand is ready for saluting. Hold your hand out sideways. Now, when you separate your ring and middle finger, your alligator will open and close its mouth. Spiders are easy, toojust let your hands crawl across a table.
It's fun to combine your hands with your child's hands to make animals. Or make two animals that can converse with one anothera dog and a horse, for example. Careful, thoughyou'll need a zookeeper if you keep this up!
