Who Knows What Fun Lurks...?
Directions:
The world of shadows is its own place, where familiar objects like people, houses, and cars take on strange shapes. You and your kids can make that world your own with this playful activity.
The easiest way to play is to have your kids look for shadows on the ground, then associate them with the objects that make the image. This game can get really interesting in the evening hours, when images become elongated because of the low angle of the sun.
Alternatively, let kids make their own shadow theater on the sidewalk. Hands can become animals or machines. Kids can also line up behind one another and make a multi-armed shadow.
Try standing in different places so that the heads of your shadows touch. Move your arms and legs to make a human shadow kaleidoscope—a shadowscope?
You can play these games whenever you have a sunny day and a long walk. After all, you've got to make play while the sun shines!
