Snail Farm

Materials

  • Clear plastic bottle
  • Clear tape
  • Soil
  • Lettuce or weeds
  • Snails from the garden
Directions

Your snail farm will be contained within the plastic bottle.

  1. Cut a small door in the side of the bottle about three inches by two inches so that when the bottle is on its side the door is at the top.
  2. Next, place damp soil in the bottle.
  3. Go outside and look for snails in the yard. Look around leafy plants, in the vegetable garden, or at the base of brick walls.
  4. Put them in your snail farm and give them fresh food like lettuce and weeds.
  5. Seal the door at the top with some clear tape and punch holes in the tape for air vents.
  6. Make sure the bottle top is sealed.
  7. Watch your snails for a few days then let them go.
Note: Snail facts: Snails have 25,000 teeth. They slide on their belly which is called a foot. They leave a slimy trail behind which helps them slide without hurting themselves. That fluid can also be used to seal the shell so the snail can live up to three years without food or water.
