Quick Mimes

Directions:

Can your child convey a wealth of meaning through physical gestures alone? Have him or her pantomime some of the following (without props):

  • Walking, feeding, and playing with a pet dog
  • Getting dressed, brushing teeth and hair, and leaving for school
  • Unwrapping birthday presents and blowing out the candles on a cake
  • Picking flowers and arranging them in a vase
  • Cooking dinner, setting the table, and serving the meal
  • Playing a game of tennis, baseball, soccer, etc.
  • Collecting shells at the seashore, taking a dip in the ocean, and building sandcastles
Your child can also choose his or her own actions to mime, and you can guess what he or she is doing. Of course, you can try some mimes yourself. How does it feel to ride an invisible covered wagon over the Continental Divide?
