Nightlife

Materials:

Directions:

What really happens while the family sleeps? Ask your child to "publish" a book about his or her nighttime visions.

Your child can write a fanciful story about all the things that the household furniture and appliances do while he or she is asleep (for instance, the table might stretch its legs, the teakettle might whistle show tunes, and the telephone might call a friend). Your child might also incorporate other nonhuman characters, such as those gremlins who hide things when we're not looking.

Alternatively, your child might want to take a more serious tack and write about some of the things that actually happen while he or she sleeps (such as adults staying up late to finish household chores, nocturnal animals foraging for food, and people in other parts of the world getting ready to start the day).

This book, when finished, will undoubtedly make a very interesting bedtime story.
