Make Your Own Magic

Check out these great activities for young wizards everywhere!

  • Your young magician wears a long-sleeved shirt or coat and holds an unsharpened pencil in his/her hand. Next, he or she drapes a washcloth over the pencil and secretly works the pencil under one shirt or coat sleeve. Your child finally whips off the washcloth, and voila! From the audience's point of view, the pencil has vanished.

  • For another trick, your child tapes a strand of hair to a nickel or penny, and puts the coin -- hair-side down -- on a table or other work area. He or she then places three cups on the table, with one covering the coin so that the hair is still visible. Finally, your magician scrambles the three cups and, to the audience members' amazement, proves that he or she always knows where the coin is!

  • There's nothing more exciting than putting on a magic show -- except putting on a magic show with costumes! Take a look at these great get-ups.
