Pressed-Flower Place Mats
- Fresh flowers
- Old phone book
- Self-adhesive plastic
Open the book and lay the flowers between the pages. Repeat on other pages until there are no more flowers to press. Close the book and leave until the flowers are dry, checking every few days. Thin flowers will dry in a few days, thicker ones may take up to ten days. When the flowers are dry, remove carefully. Cut two pieces of plastic the general size and shape for your place mat design. You will trim to finished size, so don't worry about the pieces matching perfectly. Arrange the flowers on the plastic by holding carefully to each side then dropping them as flat as possible onto the plastic. The flowers will stick instantly, so some may be bent. This will add to the garden look, since many flowers are often seen from the side when growing in a group. Once all the dried flowers are stuck to the plastic, place the second piece of plastic on top (this will require adult help). Smooth out the wrinkles and trim the edges to the desired size.
