Scratch Art Activity for Kids

Time

  • 1 hour

Materials

  • White paper or cardboard
  • Crayons
  • Black tempera paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Liquid hand soap
  • Large paper clip

Directions

  1. Color heavily over the paper with crayons, covering its surface completely with a variety of colors.
  2. Mix a small amount of the soap with the black paint and cover the surface entirely.
  3. Let dry overnight.
  4. Use the paper clip to scratch off a drawing so that the colors show through where the black has been removed.

Extensions

  • Cut into strips to use as Christmas ornaments or bookmarks.
