Painted Place Mat

Mix rubber cement and tempera paint to give your toddler's homemade place mat a unique appearance.

Painted Place Mat


Materials

  • Rubber cement
  • White construction paper
  • Tempera paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Clear contact paper

Directions

  1. Dribble rubber cement randomly or in a design over a sheet of white construction paper.
  2. Allow to dry for about 30 minutes, then paint over the rubber cement using tempera paint in one or more colors.
  3. Allow the paint to dry, then peel the rubber cement off the construction paper to see the design that is left.
  4. Cover both sides of the painting with clear contact paper to make it into a place mat.
