A Leafy Masterpiece

by Margy Davidson

Ages: Elementary
Time: 30 minutes or longer
Type of activity: Art

Materials needed:

  • Leaves
  • Washable tempera paints
  • White paper
  • One sheet of colored construction paper
  • Paint smock or old tee shirt (to protect child's clothes from paint)
  • Scotch tape

    What to do:

    1. Go outside and gather a bunch of leaves. They should be different sizes and shapes.

    2. Put one leaf on the paper and tape it in place.

    3. Paint around the edge of the leaf.

    4. Remove the leaf.

    5. Repeat this process using different leaves and paint colors until you have filled the paper with your colorful leaf design. The leaves may overlap.

    6. Take the finished project and "frame" it by centering it on a colorful piece of construction paper and gluing it down. Voila! You now have a leafy masterpiece!
