Dressed-Up Pineapple

A traditional symbol of hospitality, this ornamental pineapple brings a festive touch to the holiday table or mantelpiece.

What you need:

  • a pineapple from the supermarket
  • gold paint and paintbrush
  • a 12" piece of ribbon
  • a few boughs of evergreen
  • a basket big enough to hold the pineapple

Before you launch into the project...

  • Cover your work surface with newspaper and secure it with masking tape. At clean-up time, you can scrunch up the mess and toss it in the trash.
  • Protect your clothes with an oversized T-shirt or apron.

What you do:

  1. Decorate the lower tips of the pineapple as well as the leaves with touches of gold paint. Let dry.
  2. Tie the ribbon around the neck and make a neat bow.
  3. Put the pineapple in the basket and surround it with greens.
