Kids 3 - 5
Required: plastic egg (i.e., empty pantyhose containers or Easter eggs),small toys
Your child selects a small toy and places it inside a plastic egg. Then your son or daughter provides hints, and you guess which creature or object is "growing" inside the shell. After you've guessed at the hidden toy, your child breaks open the container and the creature "hatches." Now your child can either incubate another toy, or you can switch roles and hide an object.
Alternatively, you and your child can gather a pile of small objects (a paper clip, eraser, button, rubber ball, and the like) that will fit inside the egg. Your child turns his or her back, and you select an item and place it inside the shell. Then your child tries to guess which object you've hidden by shaking the egg or looking at the stack of remaining items to determine what's missing.
If you have several plastic shells, your child can hide an object inside one of them. You then guess which egg contains the item. Now how's that for a new twist on the old shell game?
