Straight Jumping

Directions

These rhymes can be used by individual jumpers and by children jumping in groups.

I love coffee.
I love tea.
I love the boys (girls),
And the boys (girls) love me.

Postman, postman,
Do your duty.
Send this letter
To an American beauty.
Don't you stop and don't delay.
Get it to her right away.

Mother, mother, I am ill.
Call for the doctor over the hill.
In came the doctor.
In came the nurse.
In came the lady
With the alligator purse.
"Measles," said the doctor.
"Mumps," said the nurse.
"Nothing," said the lady
With the alligator purse.

To get the jumping started for group jump rope, say the following rhyme while swinging the rope back-and-forth along the ground as shown. Make a full turn of the rope on the "over," then begin a new rhyme.

(back) (forward) (back) (forward and over)
Bluebells, cockle shells, eevy, ivy, over!
