  • 10 to 15 minutes

  • Plastic tub full of sand
  • Small metal objects
  • Magnet

A magnet is fun to play with, and in this activity it is paired with the excitement of a treasure hunt. Hide the metal objects in the sand and let your child pull them out with the magnet.

  • Make a list of each item in the sand to cross off as they are pulled out until all are found.
  • Add a few plastic items and discuss what happens to them.
  • Have your child gather a few items around the house and try them out, and then discuss the results.
