Family Games: Sardines

Sardines is a fun family party game that reverses the old classic, Hide and Seek. All the kids close their eyes and count while one person hides. When the counting is completed (usually to about 25 is fine for this game) all the “Its” must begin the search. When one of the “Its” finds the hider, he or she doesn't say anything but quietly crawls into the hiding spot with the hider. The “It” who finds the player must wait until no one is nearby before crawling into the space with the hider because he or she doesn't want anyone else to find the spot.

High Score

To add a little more fun to Hide and Seek, you can play that all the people who are caught have to help “It” find the rest of the hiders—making the game a little more challenging for the hiders to get home.

Slowly the “Its” will start to disappear and the hiding place will become more and more cramped with hiders. Now you know why the game is called Sardines!

The game ends when the last of the “Its” finds the “sardines.” By this point the last “It” will most likely just have to follow the sounds of giggles and squeals. It's not easy to keep quiet when you're all squished, uncomfortably, together.

The first “It” to find the hider gets to be the first hider in the next round.
