Can you create memorable sound bites worthy of a politician?

Give your child examples of famous sound bites and talk about the events they help memorialize. Read newspaper headlines together, and see which of them are pithy and flashy enough to qualify as sound bites. Then see whether your child can improve upon the headlines to create unforgettable slogans or catch phrases.

Alternatively, cut a dozen or so articles from an old newspaper. Discard the headlines. Have your child create sound bites for each article on an index card to replace the headline. Your challenge is to match the sound bite to the article. Then turn the tables. See whether your child can match your sound bite suggestions to the same articles.

Who knows? Maybe well-crafted sound bites will turn all the stories that enter your home into good news.
