After 10 months, The Endurance was crushed and sank, forcing the crew to set up camp on Elephant Island. At this point Shackleton, determined that every member of his crew should survive, set out with 5 crewmembers on a desperate journey to seek help. Braving treacherous waters, this small band of men were able to reach South Georgia Island. After a difficult two years, the crew was finally rescued.
