Description: "Tapestries of Hope" explores filmmaker Michealene Cristini Risley's sojourn to Africa as she investigates the longstanding myths surrounding the power of virgin blood. The film allows us to witness the resiliency of the girls of Betty Makoni's Girl Child Network who refused to be defined by the abuses committed against them. Founded in 1998, GCN is a girls' rights activist development organization with a membership of more than 25,000 girls across Zimbabwe. Its main goal is the holistic and total empowerment of the girl child as well as the eradication of all forms of abuse and practices that impede the full physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and development of the girl child.
