The Inheritors (Los herederos)

Rating:No Rating
Genre:Documentary
Release Date:January 1, 2008
Running time:90 minutes
Director:Eugenio Polgovsky

Description: Child labor is considered a scandal in the United States, but it's an unfortunate fact of life in many parts of the world, and among poor families in Mexico it's common for young children to go to work to help put food on the table. As the children of Mexico's neediest citizens abandon school in favor of working in fields, factories and sweatshops, they may help keep body and soul together for their parents and their siblings, but they also help insure that they'll stay trapped in menial employment for the rest of their lives, continuing a vicious circle of poverty that has continued for generations. Filmmaker Eugenio Polgovsky examines the realities of life for Mexican children at work in Los Herederos, a documentary which follows a handful of underage laborers as they give up their innocence of youth in favor of a subsistence wage that for some means the difference between starvation and survival. Los Herederos was an official selection at the 2008 Venice Film Festival.~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
