It is now many years earlier, 1815, and Mr. Earnshaw returns to Wuthering Heights from Liverpool with a young orphan, Heathcliff. Earnshaw's son Hindley immediately resents Heathcliff, while daughter Cathy forms a deep bond with the mysterious boy. Ten years later, Hindley inherits Wuthering Heights and uses his power to treat Heathcliff poorly. Meanwhile, Cathy's connection with Heathcliff deepens and blossoms into love. However, an unexpected stay at the Linton home opens Cathy's eyes to the affections of Edgar Linton.
