Description: What is hip-hop when you take it out of American inner cities -- subtracting drugs, crime, bling and substituting a socialist economy and revolutionary spirit? In Cuba, you get teenagers and 20-somethings sharing $2 quarts of rum and riffing on themes from U.S. imperialism to Eminem's "I'm Shady." Filmmakers explore the scene, leading up to the National Hip-Hop Festival. Independent for years, the festival was co-opted in 2003 by a state institution and now the lines have been drawn, throwing artists, producers, and fans into heated debate on being an artist in Cuba today.
