Experiencing a mode of transportation that isn't part of a child's daily life is eye-opening.
Transportation Exploration with Your Child

By Bus, Boat, or Train

Directions

Kids are intrigued with all methods of transportation, from wheels on the bus to hot air balloons. Experiencing a mode of transportation that isn't part of a child's daily life is quite an experience. Select a method of transportation that you and your child don't use often. If you drive everywhere in the car, then you might choose the local bus, train, ferry, subway, or cable car. Do a little research online, or find a book in the library that has detailed picture and description of how the chosen mode of transportation works. Ask your child questions; how do you think the wheel was discovered? How does the train keep moving forward? Encourage imagination and creative explanations rather than the right answer. Buy a round-trip ticket and go for a ride.
