Snake and Sight-Words Board Game
Grade Levels: 1 - 3
Objectives
- Students will practice sight words.
Materials
- Snake gameboard
- Heavy white paper
- Scissors
- Laminating materials
- List of sight words
- Dice
Procedures
- Make a copy of the snake gameboard.
- Take a sheet of heavy white paper and rule it off into twenty one-inch squares.
- On each square clearly print a sight word that your students need to learn or practice.
- Cover the entire sheet with clear Con-Tac plastic and cut the paper into one-inch squares.
- Place each of the squares face down on one of the empty squares on the snake.
- The game begins with the first child rolling a die and moving the number of spaces shown on the die.
- If the player lands on a shaded square, he or she turns up a card and reads it aloud.
- If the player does so correctly, he or she replaces the word card face down and stays on the square; if not, the card is returned face down to the square and the player must retreat to the nearest shaded square behind the space on which he or she landed.
- The first player to get to WIN, and reads it correctly, does!
