f your kids loved Tarzan, the prequel Tarzan II will entertain them, too. It chronicles Tarzan's childhood years, beginning with his life among the apes. All the familiar characters are included, like Terk and Tantor, and some new ones are introduced.
Little Tarzan is a bit wild and reckless, and his antics put his ape family in jeopardy more than once. After the second incident endangers his mother, Kala, Tarzan runs away, hoping to prove himself. And that's when his adventures begin.
Tarzan first runs into a family of three gorillas: Mama Gunda and sons Uto and Kago. After a brief encounter with them, he finds himself wandering up the Dark Mountain, where he comes face to face with a monstrous hermit named Zugor. Zugor is the most powerful force in the land, but he gradually develops a mentoring relationship of sorts with Tarzan, who wants lessons in how to be a great ape. Meanwhile, Tantor and Terk set off to rescue Tarzan, and meet up with the gorilla family along the way.
It all comes together and ends happily, with lessons learned: Believe in yourself. Being different is not a weakness. Everyone has a gift to offer to others. Family and friends are the greatest strength of all.
Something for Everyone
Tarzan is filled with familiar Disney themes and wholesome messages, but there's plenty of physical comedy and one-liners. Youngsters will enjoy the antics of the comic animal characters, but will also relate to Tarzan's predicament. Older viewers will find Zugor entertaining a cranky, anti-social ape who nevertheless has a lot to teach about life.
The excellent voice cast includes Glenn Close as Kala, George Carlin as Zugor, and Emmy Award winner Brad Garrett as Uto. Phil Collins created several new songs for this production, and the jungle sound effects are outstanding. Tarzan is also a visual treat, with lush, saturated color and impressive scenery.
Rated G, this video is perfect for the whole family, and is especially recommended to Tarzan fans.
