Six-year old Cole (Haley Joel Osment) is saddled with problems much larger in scale than a typical child his age. He is constantly terrified by the images of ghosts he sees, and it's up to his psychologist, Dr. Malcom Crowe (Bruce Willis), to help him.

But as Dr. Crowe digs deeper into Cole's mind, they both learn terrifying new things about themselves and each other.
