Ex-prisoner Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) has been sought for years by ruthless cop Javert (Russell Crowe) after breaking parole decades earlier. In a desperate act to seek redemption, Valjean agrees to care for the daughter of a factory worker named Fantine (Anne Hathaway.) As Valjean attempts to make a new life for himself while evading the obsessive Javert, he realizes that caring for Fantine's daughter will change all of their lives forever.
