This is a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes' celebrated 1961 play by the same name. In the film, Langston (Jacob Latimore) — a street-wise teen raised by a single mom (Jennifer Hudson) in Baltimore — travels to New York City for a Christmas visit with his estranged grandparents, Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett).
